How to Live a Good Life
What can be seen a good life by one person, may be very repulsive to another. This is because each one of us has his or her own understanding of what a good life is. Having said that, it is important to note that a good life goes beyond the material things. In fact, we shall be looking at immaterial things when we are talking of living a good life.
Value your family. One of the greatest secrets to a good life is putting a high value on our families. Many times, we take for granted the gift of family. However, we only see the sense in them once we are faced with a calamity such as illness, death or something related. However, that should not be that case.
Know your true friends. When it comes to friends, quality supersedes quantity. I had someone say – I don’t know where she got it – that the only people you should call friends are those that you can count on one hand. Not everyone agrees with this statement, but it has a lot of sense in it. Many of us make our friends during days of prosperity and joy, yet we need them the most during days of trouble. The best friends are those who will stick with you on your lowest point in life and these will show you the meaning of a good life.
Have a strong relationship with God. Life can be totally meaningless if you do not believe in God. Some of us go through life unaware of what our purpose in life is. We cannot tell what makes life worth living. It is only by having a personal relationship with Jesus that we can see the true meaning of a good life. Draw near to God and he shall direct your path.
It is easy to live a good life if you have your own goals in life. The reason why many people don’t seem to be contended with their lives is because many of them do not have goals in life. They do not know what they should achieve and so they keep on looking at other people success and feel that they too should be like that. When they strive and get, they end up being as frustrated because that was not their goals in the first place.
Think positive to enjoy a good life. Always keep your mind on the positive side of life. If you surround yourself with negative news, negative conversations, and negative thoughts, you may end up living a pretty unfulfilling life. If you want to live a positive life, don’t behave as if you are the only person who always has bad luck.
Make your contributions and have a good life. It is important that you are always ready to help where you can. Know that there is a very big fulfillment that comes with helping other people in the society. Don’t be thinking about yourself all the time. Instead, look at the various ways in which you can build your life through helping those who are around you and need your help.
A good life does not come by escaping life’s problems. There are some people who when they are weighed down by the troubles of this life, choose to engage in risky behaviors that will add no value to their lives. Such behaviors include, sexual immorality, drug abuse, and so on. Such activities will only lead you further and further away from living a good life.
Remember always to count your blessings. From whatever angle you look at it, it is easy to conclude that life ahs been very unfair to you and that you don’t have a good life. However, if you look at the things that you have, you can see how blessed you have been. You probably know the story of the guy who constantly complained about the lack of shoes until the day he saw someone without legs. If you choose, you can see that simply having legs is in itself a plus to having a good life.
