This is our band Mind Expanding Substances playing a drunken jam. Its not really serious at all as you can tell by the lyrics but was pretty fun to play. It was filmed with a Samsung mx-20 with an opteka fisheye lens and edited on wmm.

The Dave Matthews Band Story
The Dave Matthews band was formed in Charlottesville, Va. In 1991 by singer songwriter Dave Matthews. The other band members consist of bassist Stefan Lessard, Violinist Boyd Tinsley, Rashawn Ross and Tim Reynolds. It’s saxophonist Leroi Moore who helped start the group died in August 2008 due to complications resulting from injuries sustained in an ATV accident and Bela fleck has been filling in as the groups sax player ever since.
The band members have a unique mixed background in music covering most musical genres including jazz, classical, soul, rock, blue grass, and hip hop. This combination of talent and musical styles gives the band an appeal that encompasses music lovers of all ages and backgrounds. They are most well known for their summer long tours, in the United States and Europe, where their performances are marked by elaborate videos and incredible lighting.
They also have a number of albums to their credit and some of the members also have begun to establish successful solo careers as well.
How the Band Got It’s Name
Unlike many band’s who are named after the founder this was not the case with the Dave Matthews Band. In fact, the band never intended to be named after any of the members and arrived at it’s name quite by accident. The band was playing around trying to come up with a suitable name while performing locally and then to wider and wider audiences. Since the band did not have a name at the time venues began listing them under the name of Dave Matthews for identification purposes and later the word band was attached. By the time the band realized that they had become known by that name, the name had stuck and they felt it was too late to change it without causing confusion.
A Leaderless Band
One of the things that makes this band work is that every artist associated with the band has an equal say in the songs and how they are played. There really is no leader despite the fact that Dave Matthews founded it and the band bares his name. In fact, every member is encouraged to bring their own special musical abilities and style into each song and then it is tweaked until they get the sound the entire band likes.
The Songs
Many of the songs written by Dave Mathews are inspired by his own life and some of their hit songs are “What would you say” “Satellite” “Too much” Tripping Billies” and “So much to say” which won the group a Grammy. Their second album and their first real commercial success was “Under the table dreaming” which was dedicated to Dave’s sister Anne who had been murdered by her husband in a murder suicide.
Not All About Music
Although the band is dedicated to their music their lives also include a variety of other interests including many charitable works. They donate concerts and money to disadvantaged youth, the disabled, the environment and to the Arts and Humanities. The Dave Mathews band is an interesting mix of different styles of music encompassing many genres. They are a not only a talented group of musicians but have a social conscience as well.
